We Need Each Other

Life is hard isn’t it?  Every one of us has hardships, heartaches and difficulties that tax our physical energy and test our level of faith.  One of the things that I have noticed about many Christian women in recent years, is that when hard times come and our faith is being tried, it sometimes seems to be the very time when we withdraw from one another, run to our hole in the ground and bury ourselves in our own little world, not to come out until the skies are blue again.  That is such a self-centered response to such common life situations.

Sometimes ladies, we can act like we are the only one with a problem.  What is wrong with a Christianity that cannot reach out to another in need, even while we may be struggling ourselves?  This would be the perfect time to forget about yourself and focus on helping someone else.

We need each other…

The Lord in His goodness brought a little lady into our church that I personally believe has forced many of our “sisters” out of their comfort zone and reminded us that there are others out there that have needs just like ours…if not greater needs than ours!

Our little “Becca” came to us wounded.  She has a refreshingly honest approach to life, albeit a sometimes blunt one.  Our Becca has forced many of us out of our self-imposed seclusion and several away from the “cat and mouse games” Christian women sometimes play.  Becca is bluntly honest about her fears, loneliness, her need for friendship, encouragement and spiritual strength.  Honestly, I find that refreshing.   If we are not careful ladies, we can play the pious Christianity game that tries to make things looks good on the outside of the cup and platter when, if the truth were known….there is nothing but a cracked pot underneath the façade.

I have noticed how the Lord has used Becca to pull many of us out of our complacency and “too busy for others” way of life.  We really do need to take notice of the hurting around us.  Don’t be the kind of woman who says, “Well, I hurt too,” and begrudge the neediness of others; be the kind of woman that says, “Yes, I’m hurting too, but I’m going to focus on someone else who may have a need or care greater than my own”.

We need to get outside of our own selfishness… and to think with the mind of Christ – toward people.

Galatians 6:1-2 “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest though also be tempted.  Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

Philippians 2:3-4 “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”

Our church has always been a hospital for the wounded.  Let’s examine our compassion for those who might be needing encouragement or friendship and learn how to “be there” for others.  If you have been saved for many years, you should be an aged woman who is capable of teaching and reaching out to weaker sisters.

Let’s not be weary in well doing dear sisters…Let’s work to make our church a refuge for the lost and a sanctuary of peace for our local body of Christ.

We need each other….

“…by love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13

Thank you Mrs Shaffer! I appreciate your words of wisdom. The Lord has placed a "Becca" in my life, too. Your article is a sweet reminder that we can serve the Lord by serving others. Simple yet profound.
Also, I want to tell you what a blessing BFT has been to me. My daughter mentioned your website awhile back, but I didn't take a peek till just a couple months ago. What a treasure! So many great articles and talented writers!! Keep up the great work! I look forward to reading them all, especially Daily Delights...a great start to my morning! Thanks so much to all of you and for allowing the Lord to use you in such a special way!

Thank you Betty, for your kind words. With the Lord's help we are striving to speak a word in due season to be an encouragement and spiritual voice for our Lord. We covet your prayers for this endeavor. Would love to meet you sometime this side of Heaven.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Praise the Lord for our "Becca" and all of the loving ladies in our church who have reached out to one another. Becca's honest, open approach to life has challenged me... I just love this little firecracker of a friend. Thank you for challenging us and encouraging us again with these Scriptural principals, Mrs. Shaffer! Love you, Diana
